While developers draw up plans to revitalize Coney Island, many residents remain wary of its future. Community Board 13 members say they planned for more than three years to overhaul Coney Island without touching the existing and historic amusement parks. However, many say the development company, Thor Equities, stepped in and bought the land and many of the stores and now refuse to specifically disclose its plans. Some residents worry their discretion may change Coney Island for the worse. A spokesperson for Thor Equities denies these claims saying the company has met with both the community board and the Coney Island Development Corporation on several occasions to share its plans. Officials say whatever the construction, it won?t affect activities like the annual fireworks, concerts and parades.
