Following Gov. Lamont’s announcement of stage 2 drought conditions, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is reminding residents to be cautious around campfires, bonfires and firepits this weekend.
People are advised to keep flammable objects away from fire, keep firefighting tools nearby, and scrape away leaves, twigs, and grass within a 10-foot diameter circle of the fire.
Residents and business in Westport are also being asked to help conserve water to reduce the impact of the drought.
Towns included in Aquarion's Mandatory Irrigation Program are Darien, East Granby, Fairfield, Granby, Greenwich, Groton, Mystic, New Canaan, Newtown, Simsbury, Stamford, Stonington, and Westport.
The irrigation schedule will continue through Oct. 31. Aquarion says they can penalize homeowners if they don't follow the schedule.
