Kids from Bridgeport and Stamford were at Yale University Sunday to take part in a special program with the FBI, designed to spark interest in a career in law enforcement.

"The Future Law Enforcement Youth Academy" resumed for the first time since 2019 after the pandemic put it on hold.

Organizers explained that 30 students, 15 boys and 15 girls, are chosen from across Connecticut to take part in the program after a rigorous interview process.

Sunday was the start of a week-long camp where kids live on the Yale campus and learn about law enforcement and legal careers.

"It is important to get young kids involved and excited about a career in law enforcement," said Wendy Keller, of FBI, New Orleans.

"We are putting people in positions now that are working at the FBI who were here during the first and second year of the program. Watching their growth and what they've developed into has been amazing for me," said FBI Public Affairs Specialist Charlie Grady.

The program started in 2016.

The organizers said that the FBI in New Orleans are starting a similar camp based on the Yale model.
