Fourth graders at Connolly Elementary School in Glen Cove took part in a dancing workshop to learn about Hispanic culture.
It is part of the district's celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. In addition to music and dancing, students also learned about the Hispanic community's contributions in other areas of study including math, science and history.
A majority of students in the Glen Cove City School District have a Hispanic background.
"They learn about themselves - they learn about each other," says Lawrence Nadl.
Students agree that it's important to learn new things and what's going on in the world around them.
The principal of Connolly Elementary School says at the end of Hispanic Heritage Month, the students and their families will celebrate with Hispanic food, dancing, music and fun.
