The NYC Parks Department held a consecration ceremony for an enslaved African burial ground in Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday for Juneteenth.
The dedication involved an unveiling of new signage, a libation ceremony, spoken word performances and African drums.
The area will be closed to vehicular and foot traffic from now on to honor the lives and the work done in the park by enslaved people.
