A construction company is demanding answers after their forklift was stolen in broad daylight in East New York this past Tuesday.
The forklift was stolen before noon on March 28 while classes were in session at the Van Siclen Middle School.
Surveillance cameras recorded a man who appears to be a construction worker cut through a fence and make his way to the machine. Shortly after, he takes out an object and makes his way inside, then drives off in the forklift.
Aazib Haider, project manager for Safecon Builders, said the company was doing construction work for the school. He filed a police report on the theft. He said he was shocked that something like this could happen.
Haider said his boss arrived to the school at 10 a.m. to make sure that the forklift was there. Haider said when he showed up to the school at 12 p.m. the lot was empty. School surveillance video shows that the forklift was stolen at 10:45 a.m. The theft took less than five minutes.
Haider added that a few of the company's tools were stolen from the same lot last year, but nothing like the cost of a 9,000-pound forklift.
The NYPD said the incident is under investigation. No arrests have been made.
