Drivers in Greenpoint are advised to begin looking for alternative routes out of the borough due to impending construction on the Kosciuszko Bridge.
The bridge which connects Brooklyn to Queens, will undergo major construction for the next several years. As a result, a number of nearby streets will be closed off.
The Department of Transportation plans to build two side-by-side bridges that will replace the Kosciuszko. First, a Queens-bound bridge will be constructed, and then the existing bridge will be torn down to make it Brooklyn-bound.
The project has a projected length of about 5 years.
One driver says that although the traffic may be nightmarish at times, the end results will be worth it.
The Kosciuszko Bridge originally opened in 1939.
