Police say a contractor brought in hand grenades that he found to the 83rd Precinct in Bushwick Tuesday.
They say a contractor found the two explosive devices when he was cleaning up a job site nearby at 273 Bleecker St. The contractor told News 12 Brooklyn that he found the grenades in the basement of the building, which has been empty for 22 years. The explosives were in a box along with some guns.
He told police that he didn't know what to do with the grenades, so he brought them to the precinct. He says police told him the grenades could have been from World War I, and one of them was active.
The bomb squad is now examining the device, and an investigation is ongoing. No one was injured.
