Peter's Clam Bar in Island Park hosted its annual clam eating contest Sunday to benefit a baby boy diagnosed with cancer.
People ate as many clams as they could to raise thousands of dollars for 7-month-old boy Cooper Graham, who was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer.
“It’s called retinal blastoma... He’s at Cohen’s Children’s Medical Center and he’s going through a treatment plan and he’s fighting every day,” explained his father, Michael Graham.
Graham said he’s been by his son’s side every day, trying to keep his spirits up.
“We keep telling him every day how many people are behind him to get through this, and we have a slogan 'Coop Strong,' which we preach every day in our family to get him health and home,” Graham added.
Many people at the contest pulled for Cooper Graham, including the organizer and owner of Peter’s Clam Bar Butch Yamali.
“If we can help a child to hopefully find a way to get out of that hospital and get better or at least a little bit better, so he could have a little life, that’s all we care about, honestly,” Yamali said.
The money raised here will help the family with expenses, especially medical.
