A Suffolk County fire department accused of indiscriminate spending earlier this year is now looking to borrow $4.5 million.
The Copiague Fire Department held an informational meeting at their main firehouse on Great Neck Road.
The department says the money would not affect taxes and will go toward buying new firetrucks and a new ambulance, as well as the construction of new facilities.
Some, however, are questioning the price tag following an audit by New York state comptroller Tom DiNapoli earlier this year found the department engaged in sloppy accounting practices.
It included credit card transactions without receipts and $1,500 spent for a steak dinner.
Residents will be voting on the proposed bond next week.
