Police hope surveillance video will provide clues to catch the driver in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Flatlands Tuesday.
Authorities are reviewing tape from a camera that is positioned at a store near the scene of the accident. Police say a dark-colored Nissan Maxima struck 53-year-old Mary Doherty as she crossed Utica Avenue near Avenue N. Witnesses say the driver stopped halfway down the block, got out and then continued traveling southbound. According to police, Doherty was taken to Brookdale Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Police say the driver was male and the 90s model vehicle had temporary plates. Anyone with information about the accident is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
