Costco is limiting purchases of toilet paper, paper towels and cleaning supplies just like it did in 2020.
The big box retailer says demand for these products are up because of the delta variant, supply chain issues and shipping costs.
One analyst from a market research company says New Yorkers don’t need to start panic buying.
“In many cases, it’s more hype than reality,” says Marshal Cohen with the NPD Group.
He says some shoppers could be stocking up because of concerns of another quarantine, but stores are just trying to get customers to remain loyal by coming back for more items.
Cohen says New York shouldn’t have an issue when it comes to supply issues, but other states might.
“When you go to visit somebody for the holiday, you may be bringing a big pack of toilet paper with you,” Cohen says.
Some shoppers at the Melville Costco say they are not worried and panic buying isn’t necessary.
Cohen says other retailers could also start to limit items as part of a chain reaction.
