Staten Island Democrats on Wednesday chose city Councilman Michael McMahon to run for the Congressional seat of Rep. Vito Fossella (R-N.Y.).
Fossella had previously announced that he would not seek re-election after a few well-publicized incidents that included a drunken-driving arrest.
McMahon has represented the North Shore of Staten Island in the City Council since 2002.
He will be running against fellow Democrat Stephen Harrison, a Brooklyn lawyer.
Despite the endorsement, Harrison has vowed he'll stay in the race until the Sept. 9 Democratic primary.
