Officials say two people were killed and several others were injured Saturday in an early morning fire in East Flatbush.
Fire officials say they received a call for a fire at 4831 Church Ave. at around 5:30 a.m. The flames broke out in a building with a ground-floor business and two floors of apartments above.
Neighbors say they saw the flames tearing through the top floor and ran to help.
Police identified the victims as Lord Kinard, 76, and Octavia Kinard, 71.
Neighbors say the couple had a daughter and grandson who lived with them, and they were able to make it out of the building without injuries.
Officials say three other victims are being treated at New York Presbyterian Hospital. They are expected to be OK.
Fire officials believe the blaze may have been caused by a faulty power strip on the first floor. They also say they found no working smoke alarms in the building.
Authorities are urging Brooklyn residents to call 311 for information on how to get a free smoke and carbon monoxide detector.
