A new dog park was unveiled Friday at Cow Meadow Park in Freeport.
The half-acre property features two dog playgrounds, one for smaller pups and one for larger ones.
They include dog water fountains, plastic bag dispensers for waste pickup and disposal, and wind screening on fences to keep the dogs safe.
It is built on pea gravel, which helps protect paws from sharp objects and rocks.
"Our best friends now no longer need to go to East Rockaway, Malverne or Bellmore," says Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy. "This dog park will be open seven days a week from sunrise to sunset, and we invite all of our furry friends down here."
The dog park is the first of several renovations to be completed at Cow Meadow Park.
