A new consumer protection law in New York that targets hidden credit card surcharge fees went into effect on Sunday.

The New York State Division of Consumer Protection says the new law aims to increase transparency.

Businesses are now required to either list an item at the price it would cost with fees before a purchase, or list a price for cash and credit, like what people see at gas stations.
