Search and rescue efforts turned into a recovery mission Saturday for a teenager who went missing in a Jet Ski accident in Mill Basin.

Authorities say the 17-year-old boy collided with another watercraft Friday about 4:30 p.m. and was thrown head first into the water. Witnesses say they saw the water vehicles close together before the accident. The boy?s mother tried to rescue him, but says she was overcome by the strong waves and was forced back.

Investigators say the teenager was not wearing a life vest.
