A few blocks were blocked off in Canarsie Tuesday as crews tackled a water main break.
The New York City Department of Environmental Protection is trying to find the source of the water main break. Some residents tell News 12 they dealt with a lot of water damage, while others avoided it.
"We just saw water spouting out of the street," said Kisha Miller.
Miller says she has never seen anything like this on 78th Street in the 14 years that she has lived there. Fortunately, she says her property was spared major damage.
However, Everton Facey who lives on 79th Street, wasn't so lucky.
"Ever since I seen it, I just got an instant headache," said Facey. Facey says he was checking on his aunt's house when the issue started.
"There was water on the basement floor, so then I went to the back to see, and I noticed water coming through the back door and I opened the back door. It's like a wave of water just hit me by surprise," said Facey.
His neighbors explained to News 12 that the water was up to their knees at one point, damaging most of their furniture. Facey says thousands of dollars worth of equipment was ruined.
