A crossing guard was struck by a car Friday while helping an elderly woman cross the street.
According to emergency responders, the collision happened at around noon at Castle Hill Avenue and the Cross Bronx Expressway service road. The guard was taken to Jacobi Medical Center.
Witnesses say that a livery cab driver was speeding to beat a traffic light when it hit the crossing guard and clipped an SUV as well.
The driver of the livery cab stayed at the scene following the accident. The condition of the crossing guard remains unknown.
