Parents are outraged tonight after teachers and staff at one Brooklyn school conducted a random search and took students' cell phones.
Students at M.S. 354 say they believe the search was sparked after an incident that occurred earlier this week near the school. On Monday, police confiscated weapons near the school.
Department of Education officials say they have unannounced scanning at schools as part of the school safety program.
Initially, students were told they would get their phones returned on Friday, but school officials said the phones were returned today.
