The state Senate approved a new task force to look at racism, homophobia and other types of bullying in Connecticut schools on Wednesday.

The group would report back to lawmakers by next year.

"It's a task force that is going to be looking at the effects of hate speech on children. Where are they hearing it? Is it online? Is it in this classroom? Is it in the community," said Sen. Ceci Maher.

The state Senate voted to require hair stylists to learn about natural Black hair in barber school.

Both bills now head to the Connecticut House of Representatives.
