Gov. Andrew Cuomo was on Long Island Sunday to endorse Liuba Grechen Shirley, the Democratic candidate running for Congress in the 2nd District.
Grechen Shirley is looking to unseat Republican incumbent Rep. Peter King. Her platforms include education, health care and the environment.
Asked for comment, King says he's willing to reach across the aisle and do what's best for Long Islanders, and he says he's got the record to prove it.
At the event in Massapequa, Cuomo also endorsed local lawmakers, including state Sen. John Brooks. Cuomo says Democratic candidates will stand strong against the policies of President Donald Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress.
"I'll tell you how we stop the Congress from doing bad acts to New York, we elect Democratic Congress people who will stand up and protect New York," Cuomo told the crowd.
"It's critical that we take back the Senate. It's critical that we flip the House blue this November," Grechen Shirley said.
Rep. King says that if they're both still in office after the election, he will continue to fight for Andrew Cuomo and New York in Congress.
