More New Yorkers are now eligible for their first round of the coronavirus vaccine.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday New York is accepting new guidance from the CDC.
It comes after the Trump administration asked states to speed COVID-19 vaccines to people over 65, as well as those under 64 who are immunocompromised.
Cuomo says the new guidance does create a problem.
"You have a population eligible now that's about 7 million, we receive 300,000 dosages per week - that has not changed - the federal government didn't give us any additional allocation. How do you effectively serve 7 million people?" said Cuomo.
Paula Stylides and her son, Glenn, saw that vaccines were available at the Rite Aid in Ardsley. They went there in hopes of signing up or getting lucky enough to get the vaccine, but that didn't happen. Rite Aid's like the one in Ardsley either don't have doses or are not accepting appointments.
Audrey St. Vincent says trying to find an appointment for her parents was tough.
"This literally, and I am not exaggerating, was like five hours of doing this," says St. Vincent.
Gov. Cuomo says, "We need patience at an impatient time in history. This federal policy is making it extraordinarily difficult."
Cuomo says the federal government needs to make more vaccines available to the states.
Gov. Cuomo's office tells News 12 that pharmacies are only administering vaccines for those 75 years or older.
