Opponents say a House proposal to cut federal funding for public transit could lead to higher MTA fares for the city?s straphangers.
New York could lose almost $2 billion in transit funding if the proposal, drafted by House Republicans, becomes law.
Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Queens, The Bronx) joined other opponents of the proposal at Grand Central Station today. Crowley says the proposal would stunt mass transit in the state.
House Republicans are expected to bring the bill up for a vote in the coming days.
