A new bicycle path has been unveiled on the Manhattan Bridge approach, making the commute safer and easier for Brooklyn cyclists.
The lanes of the Sand Street bike path were elevated, separating them from cars. In addition, the cyclists now have their own set of traffic lights. In the area where vehicles merge onto the highway, the city installed a concrete barrier to protect the two-wheel traffic.
"It was pretty chaotic because there was no proper demarcation of the bicycle lane on the street," recalls Bhavesh Shah.
Cycling enthusiasts hope the city will apply the same approach to other bridges in the city.
