A local veteran group has officially renamed its facility to preserve the memory of a fallen Navy SEAL from the area.

The Darien VFW Post 6933 was officially renamed on Saturday.

It's now the Brian R. Bill Darien Memorial Post 6933.

This change honors the ultimate sacrifice made by Chief Petty Officer Brian R. Bill, a 31-year-old Stamford native and Navy SEAL who lost his life in 2011 when his helicopter was downed during a mission in Afghanistan.

Bill's mother, Pat Parry, shared her deep appreciation for the gesture.

She noted that since her son left behind no spouse or children, this renaming serves as a vital safeguard to ensure his courage and ultimate sacrifice are never forgotten by future generations.
