The man accused in a deadly hit-and-run in Bed-Stuy back in 2022 appeared in court Thursday.

The incident claimed the life of Lynn Christopher and left her grandson, Jacob, with extensive brain injuries.

"When you think of having children, you save for college," said Lindy Gardner. "You're saving for their future."

Yet Gardner says the money she was putting aside for her son is now being spent on round-the-clock treatment.

"He's wheelchair bound. He's non-verbal. He has to eat through a tube in his stomach," says Gardner.

Police later arrested Tyler Green and charged him with murder. They say he had been pulled over just moments earlier before those tragic moments.

"You can't even imagine how one person who I don't know," says Gardner, "can completely alter your life by one foolish decision."

Almost three years have passed since Gardner's life was turned upside down, but she says the pain of what happened that day never goes away.

"My son's name is Jacob Corey Butler. He loves himself. He loved himself. He was a happy person," she says. "My mother was a happy, proud, beautiful woman. Her name is Lynn Christopher. And I don't want their names and faces to be forgotten."

Green's case is adjourned to April.
