The 120th U.S. Open has officially wrapped up, and once again Winged Foot in Mamaroneck showed why it's among the best golf courses in the world.
There's always great theatre when the U.S. Open comes to Winged Foot, and this past week was no different.
It started with a homecoming. Larchmont native Michael O'Keefe, best known as Danny Noonan in the hit movie “Caddyshack,” carried the bag for White Plain's own Danny Balin.
O'Keefe felt right at home reliving his role having carried bags at Wing Foot back in the early 70's.
The West Course at Winged Foot is known for its large slippery greens and its unforgiving rough.
Day 1 saw 21 players shoot under par, making people question its difficulty. But by the end of Friday, that was an afterthought as Winged Foot came to life. Just three players shot in red figures.
Heading home and not making the cut were two of the biggest names -Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
The start of the final round on Sunday saw five players within five shots of the leader Matthew Wolff.
Bryson DeChambeau would break away from the pack firing a sizzling 67. He'd win by six shots in a historic victory at Winged Foot. "As difficult as this golf course was presented, I played it beautifully. Even through the rough, I was still able to manage my game and hit it to correct sides of the greens.  My putting was immaculate today," says DeChambeau.
The 120th U.S. Open had it all except one thing of course - spectators.
