From utilities, to cars, to alcohol and meat, prices are up across the board.

In this week's Deep Dive, News 12's Kristie Reeter has a look at just how much costs have been rising on the things we buy every day.

In a News 12 poll, most New York participants said they are limiting any extras when shopping.

"Inflation is very real, up 5 to 6% from a year ago, but we are feeling it everywhere we really spend money. Just look at gas prices, 60.4% year over year, used cars and trucks up 31.8%," says Caleb Silver of Investopedia.

When it comes to fuels and utilities - like home heating - that's up 9.5%, Silver says, and food is up 6.5% from last year.

What kind of impact will inflation have on people's holiday shopping?

"We were expecting holiday sales to be up 8 to 10% from last year, about $1.8 trillion, a $1,000 per person on spend, but we are already seeing softness in retail spending in November especially in electronic stores and especially in apparel," says silver.
