As the delta variant spreads, COVID-19 cases are increasing throughout the country and right here in New York City.

The city saw 1,140 new cases in the past 24 hours, up 76 from the day before.

And as those cases increase, so do the vaccination requirements. All city employees will have to either present proof of vaccination or agree to be tested weekly for COVID-19.

Restaurants and bars are following suit, with restaurant groups like the Union Aquare Hospitality Group now requiring vaccines for staff and patrons.

Mayor Bill de Blasio is even offering $100 cash incentive for anyone who gets vaccinated at a city-run facility.

The move encouraged 450 people to get vaccinated just Friday at those city sites.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is also recommending all individuals, regardless if they are fully vaccinated, to wear a face covering indoors to stop the spread of the virus.

And with nearly three quarters of COVID-19 cases in the city over the last four weeks linked to the delta variant, the mayor says an updated indoor mask guidance will be coming on Monday.

As of Saturday, the two neighborhoods in the boroughs with the highest COVID-19 cases are in Throgs Neck in the Bronx with a 6.12% positivity rate over seven-day average, and in Brooklyn a similar situation in East New York at 6.08%.
