Democratic incumbent Iwen Chu conceded the race Tuesday night at her campaign viewing party in Sunset Park after being unable to make up for an early lead by Republican Stephen Chan that continued to widen throughout the evening.

The race had not yet officially been called but Chan claimed victory at his election if viewing party with the Brooklyn GOP.

The victory for Chan marks the first Republican victory in the district since it was redistricted in 2022.

In a statement to News 12 Chu said:

"The people have spoken, and I accept the results. I am proud of the work we did together, and above all else, I remain dedicated to this community."
