Demonstrators outside the 42nd Precinct in Morrisania are demanding that the NYPD release the body camera footage of Sunday’s attempted traffic stop that ended in a shooting.

News 12 reported that police saw a black Jeep driving through several red lights going northbound on Boston Road. The Jeep stopped at a light on East 165th Street and officers drove ahead of the Jeep and blocked it with an unmarked police car while another unmarked car stopped behind it.

Police say both cars had their warning lights on. As one of the officers approached the Jeep, the car reportedly backed up and sped toward one of the officers who then shot at the Jeep, striking the 18-year-old driver in the head. The three other people who were in the Jeep were taken to the 42nd Precinct.

The unidentified driver was last reported to be in critical condition. Two other officers were taken to the hospital.

Police did not say if anything illicit was found in the car, and no footage of the incident has been released.

It's policy for officers not to shoot at a vehicle unless it is being used as a weapon.

Mayor Eric Adams said in a press conference Tuesday that he wants to see the full video of the incident, but recognizes that cars have been used as weapons in the past.

"In the days where vehicles are used in terrorist attacks, to drive into crowds, we're dealing with a different moment in policing, and we're continuing to train our police officers on how to train on how vehicles are used as weapons to harm innocent people,” he said.

The mayor said investigators are still looking at the footage.
