(03/19/07) BROOKLYN ? Members of the National Organization of Women of New York State (NOW) marched outside a judge?s trial Monday to raise awareness about domestic violence and child custody.
Judge Gerald Garson is on trial over accusations of taking bribes. NOW members say instances of bribery and other problems in the court often leave mothers in a terrible situation, with custody of their children going to abusive fathers. They say these situations are ruining families.
NOW representatives are calling on Governor Eliot Spitzer (D-NY) to intervene and take action. They also say a conviction in the case of Judge Garson would send a strong message to judges and other attorneys.
