In a video, a man can be seen being taken into custody. Noem says he has kidnapping, assault and burglary charges against him.
The move is all part of President Donald Trump’s plan for the crackdown on immigration
Noem is in New York City this morning.
The New York Immigration Coalition said on X, formerly Twitter, that it wants to make sure New Yorkers know their rights.
The organization posted these tips for individuals approached by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
- Identify those approaching. Make sure they are ICE agents and pay attention to their uniforms.
- Document the interaction. If you feel safe to do so, you are legally allowed to take photos and videos of the encounter. Also be sure to document when the agents arrived, where they approached you and when they left.
- Share this information with friends and family. Notify neighbors that ICE is in the neighborhood.
The NYPD issued a statement saying, "Pursuant to New York City and New York State law, the NYPD does not engage in civil immigration enforcement, assist in any manner with civil immigration enforcement, or allow any Department resources to be used in connection with civil immigration enforcement. Also in accordance with city and state law, the Department continues to work daily with federal law enforcement agencies in connection with a wide range of criminal investigations. In particular, the Department participates in task forces with a variety of federal law enforcement agencies investigating violations of federal criminal law."
