A safety improvement plan is in the works for a Clinton Hill road with a seemingly endless flow of cars.
The city's Department of Transportation says the traffic changes are coming to Park Avenue, which runs along the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, between Navy Street and Flushing Avenue. The plan includes adding stop signs, increasing the amount of time pedestrians have to cross the busy street and fixing up parking entrances.
People in the area agree the revitalization project is desperately needed, calling it an unsafe area for both pedestrians and drivers. Property manager Danielle Davis says she put up barriers in front of her Park Avenue building after two cars crashed through the door, one time earlier this year and another time in 2005.
Davis says the store was open and fully occupied with shoppers at the time of the most recent incident, and someone could have been severely injured if they were standing near the front entrance.
The DOT could start making the improvements as early as this fall.
