The Department of Education is putting the brakes on its plan to save $12 million in transportation fees. The department had gotten rid of 116 bus routes and tightened restrictions on who is eligible for bus service in the Bronx and the rest of the city. Seventeen of those routes will now be restored. Parents said the changes caused total chaos. More than 20,000 parents called the Department of Education to complain and several told News 12 The Bronx the changes forced their children to board buses at the crack of dawn. Restoring the routes will cost close to $2 million for the year. The changes are expected to take effect February 26.
