Health experts say there's a measles outbreak specifically among the Orthodox Jewish community.

The Department of Health reported at least 55 cases of measles among the Orthodox Jewish community since October.

Health officials say measles are highly contagious and potentially deadly.

The department's numbers show the neighborhoods most severely affected by the measles are Borough Park and Williamsburg. Those areas have a large population of Orthodox Jewish residents.

Pediatrician Lee Waldman says that everyone should get the measles vaccine.

Health officials tell News 12 that the outbreak is one of the largest in recent history in Brooklyn and that they plan to continue to investigate measles cases, ensuring clinics and doctors in the area are fully stocked with the vaccine for the disease.
