A Plainedge High School student was killed in a vehicle crash Tuesday, according to a statement from the district.
The superintendent of the Plainedge Union Free School District has identified the victim as senior Dylan Nuccio.
The announcement from the school came two hours after first responders converged on a fatal crash scene in North Massapequa.
In that crash, police confirm that they found a 17-year-old driver in a vehicle who went off the road and into a tree at around 10:30 a.m. on the ramp to 135 North. They say he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A source tells News 12 that the teenager involved in the crash was from Plainedge High School who was on lunch break.
Police, however, have not identified if the victim in the crash is the same student identified by the superintendent.
Meanwhile, the superintendent says the district's crisis intervention team has been activated to help those grieving in the community.
The superintendent also announced that high school students are not permitted to leave the school for lunch until further notice.
