Students and school personnel from Bed-Stuy are celebrating their Memorial Day weekend by paying it forward to their community.
Students from P.S. 5, the Dr. Ronald E. McNair School, teamed in a concert with its Light House Committee to host a special book drive Saturday.
The drive sought to kick off the opening of the school’s student-run campus bookstore to the community.
Faculty members say the store is meant to improve the community and help students grow personally and professionally.
The school’s principal says the team found that while there are many schools in the community, there were not many bookstores.
Organizers hope to books more accessible for their students, especially to those living in the shelter system.
