The spotlight is on breast cancer after Food Network star Sandra Lee announced that she has the disease.
Lee, the longtime girlfriend of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, made the announcement Tuesday morning on ABC's "Good Morning America." She says that she has since had a lumpectomy, but will undergo a double mastectomy this week.
Lee says that she decided to talk about her illness because she wants to encourage other women to get screened.
According to the American Cancer Society, more than 200,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
Doctors say that the key to survival is getting screened and having mammograms performed regularly.
Woodhull Medical Center held a breast cancer seminar Tuesday to raise awareness of the disease.
