For the first time since 2019, New York City public schools will be holding senior proms for high school students but with a caveat.
Today marks National Prom Day and since students are approaching the end of the school year, some high schoolers are gearing up for their senior proms. According to an announcement they made earlier this month, the Department of Education says any student who is unvaccinated against COVID-19 cannot go to prom. Any student who is hoping to attend their senior prom this year must be vaccinated by prom day.
This means two weeks after getting their final dose, not including boosters, according to the CDC.
This news comes on the heels of mask mandates being lifted inside city schools as well as the Key to NYC vaccine mandate for local businesses. This vaccine requirement for prom falls under the city's mandate for extracurricular activities which at this time still requires students be vaccinated to participate.
