A dog was rescued from its allegedly abusive owner in Sunset Park after video surfaced that appeared to show the animal being struck.
Sounds of a whimpering dog alerted a neighbor to the alleged abuse in the backyard of a house on 48th Street. The neighbor then filmed the dog and posted the video to YouTube.
In the video, a man appears to continuously beat the dog, which cannot be fully seen, although its cries are audible. Glimpses of the dog can be seen from underneath a table.
The neighbor later recorded another video that appeared to depict police at the residence. The ASPCA confirmed that police are investigating the case.
The dog, a female mastiff, is now receiving medical care.
Neighbors were seen outside the house Wednesday after police confirmed that there were four other dogs inside. The residents say they wanted to make sure all five dogs were taken out safely.
There is no word yet on the identity of the dog's owner, or what charges he could face.
