A stretch of Shore Road in Pelham Bay is a bit safer due to the Department of Transportation installing new safety measures this week.
The DOT installed Qwick Kurbs to safely separate traffic after getting off the Pelham Bay Ridge and heading to Pelham Parkway.
John Doyle says he's been asking the city for the last 12 years to implement safety measures. He says the last time he filed a request with the DOT in July 2020.
The city's Vision Zero map shows four injuries and one fatality in the area of Shore Road through October of this year.
The DOT told News 12 in a statement, "This critical safety improvement will prevent illegal U-turns and help curb reckless driving."
Doyle says the DOT also added new speed limit signs in the area and hopes the new measures can help prevent future accidents.
