E-cargo bikes have come to a bike lane near you.
It’s all part of the New York City Department of Transportation's plan to make deliveries safer and more sustainable.
The rules recently announced by the city increase low-or no-emission options for freight deliveries that includes packages and groceries.
The cargo bikes can be up to 48 inches wide and have up to four wheels.
The DOT says it will provide the bike operators with safety training and educational materials on e-cargo bike use and battery charging.
With an increase in online order in the pandemic, the DOT says this will reduce the number of trucks on the streets.
The e-cargo bike speed limit will be 15 mph.  The new e-cargo bikes have already hit the streets of New York City, but the DOT says it may take some time for private companies to roll them out.
