The city Department of Transportation says it is taking a second look at its project for cyclists and drivers on Shore Parkway near Bath Beach and Gravesend.
Marnee Elias-Pavia, district manager of Community Board 11, says the board is not opposed to bike lanes, but the heavily trafficked location could be dangerous for drivers and bicyclists.
The commercial area includes a BJ’s Wholesale Club, Mercedes-Benz dealership and an amusement park.
The New York City Department of Transportation says the bike lane would be part of the Shore Parkway Greenway Connector, a project that extends the greenway farther south, giving more people access to the waterfront.
They say upgrading the route will provide space for cyclists, separating them from moving cars.
A DOT spokesperson says the city is taking feedback from the community board into consideration.
