The New York City Department of Transportation has been partnering with Uprose, a Sunset Park-based advocacy group, for the past two years on a new project to improve the neighborhood.
The goal is to improve connections between the residential and commercial neighborhood, as well as the industrial and recreational waterfront.
The DOT is also hoping to increase safety and create greener streets.
Near the Brooklyn Army Terminal, the goal is to improve pedestrian and bike connections to the ferry and terminal from the subway and residential neighborhood.
There will also be Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades along the route, five parking spaces on 58th Street removed and a new signalized pedestrian and bike crossing at 57th and Third avenues, pending a study.
Implementation of the project is expected to begin in the spring of next year.
