As warmer weather leads many to switch from cars to bikes, there is a new proposal in Bay Ridge that supporters say would help protect cyclists is in the works.
There are quite a few components to the proposal, which includes creating dedicated space for cyclists on several streets in Bay Ridge.
The Department of Transportation's proposal would add five new east to west bike routes, four north to south routes and bike lanes along Ovington Avenue Bridge.
The DOT says there would be no parking changes and all travel and turn lanes would remain the same, in hopes it would lead to more biking opportunities in Bay Ridge.
The DOT is also working on another project along 7th Avenue, that would include some protected bike lanes.
News 12 is told everything was presented at a board meeting Monday night and that the next meeting is scheduled for June 4.
If it gets approved, these changes could happen as early as this summer.
