A temporary pedestrian plaza may bring more public space and less traffic to downtown Brooklyn.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) plans to break ground on the temporary plaza in May. The plaza, which will be located on Willoughby Street, will include benches, chairs, tables and bike racks. Planters will be used to separate the area from traffic. DOT officials say the plaza would enhance safety for pedestrians.
DOT officials say Willoughby Street between Adams and Pearl streets will be temporarily closed during the building of the plaza. If the project is successful, DOT officials say a permanent raised plaza will be constructed and would provide nearly 7,000 square feet of new public space.
