Dozens ride in honor of assistant district attorney killed in bike accident
To her community, Senior Assistant District Attorney Sarah Pitts was a leader, organizers say. The 36-year-old was riding her bike in Williamsburg when she was hit by a charter bus. She’s the 17th person to die in a bike accident this year, according to the NYPD.
Community members say they want to make sure Pitts' death isn’t remembered as a simple statistic.
They gathered in all white, with flowers and Peeps -- her favorite snack. On their bikes, they embarked on a ride together after a vigil was held in Pitts' honor.
Earlier this week, the executive director of Transportation Alternatives, an advocacy group, pointed to the mayor’s slash in funding to Vision Zero and the Green Wave Plan during the height of the pandemic.
