Police sources say a man is dead after stealing a car and crashing in Flatlands early Monday morning.

The crash happened around 1:45 a.m. at Flatbush Avenue and Avenue J. Officers arrived to find an overturned Honda Civic with TLC plates and a man lying in the street. EMS rushed him to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Video shows debris scattered across the large intersection. The biggest piece of the car landed in the triangle median, while other parts flew all the way toward a nearby gas station. Witnesses say the car went onto the sidewalk before slamming into the edge of a building.

A worker at the Amoco gas station nearby told News 12 he saw the man’s body on the ground and said the car had been stolen from a TLC driver just before the crash. Police sources have since confirmed the car was stolen.

Detectives are still investigating what led up to the crash.
